Obituary for John D. Hoy

HOY - John D.
Entered into eternal rest in Kenmore,
NY on May 3. Born on March 17, 1943 in
Waynesburg, Pennsylvania, he was the
son of John and Blanche (Stokes) Hoy.
Most recently of Kenmore, John spent
the majority of his years in Lockport,
Batavia and Waynesburg. He served as
sports editor for the Lockport Union-Sun
& Journal and worked at Batavia Downs
Raceway and Hoover Containment. He
also co-founded a small toy company in
Buffalo known as Hoy’s Toys. He loved
all sports, and hosted radio broadcasts
calling games and giving commentaries
for stations in Waynesburg and
Lockport. His particular love was
baseball and he was a prolific storyteller.
He is survived by his daughter Megan
Gaiek (Andrew) and sons Doug Hoy,
Ryan (Meghan) Hoy and Justin Hoy,
along with four grandchildren. He was
predeceased by his son David Hoy and
sister Sally (Summersgill). Friends and
relatives can call at a special 10:30 a.m.
Memorial Service and gathering at Knox
Evangelical Presbyterian Church, 2595
Elmwood Ave, Kenmore, on May 26.
Donations may be made in lieu of flowers
to a local stroke care center or the American
Heart and Stroke Association.
