Dorothy Carr Devine May 4, 2024 Dorothy Devine, R.N., age 90, of Town of Tonawanda, passed away on May 4, 2024. Former wife of the late John J. Devine, she is survived by her beloved children: Dr. Mary Ann Devine (Craig Finger), Doreen Desanto (late Christopher DeSanto), and Ellen Gossel (Rev. Gary Gossel); by her grandchildren—affectionately known as “Dorothy’s favorites:” John Finger, Patrick Finger, Christopher DeSanto (Dennis), Chelsea DeSanto, Grace De Santo, Andrew Gossel (Jenna), Kathryn Gossel, and Theresa Gossel; and by many close nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews. The spunky, energetic matriarch of her family, Dorothy never missed a graduation, wedding, birthday, baptism, reunion, St. Patrick’s Day dinner, or pool party. She always brought her signature sense of humor and a delicious dish to pass—to the great delight of her family. Daughter of the late Louise C. (Egloff) and J. Vincent Carr. Dorothy was a graduate of Mt. St. Mary’s Academy, Kenmore, and Sisters of Charity Hospital School of Nursing. A tireless professional and fiercely independent woman, Dorothy worked in various capacities as a R.N. well into her 80s. She was a gifted facilitator of lifelong friendships, including more than 70 years with her fun-loving Nurses Club. Dorothy was the youngest granddaughter of William H. Carr, who was chairman of the Erie County Democratic Committee at the time of her birth. He was also the Chairman of the 26th Ward Democratic Committee for 9 years and a committeeman for more than 30 years. Dorothy’s love of family and local history extended into her hobby of gathering genealogy facts and anecdotes, which she shared with enthusiasm. Dorothy has been active in the ladies guild at St. Andrews parish, Kenmore, since the 1970s and was President of the Marian Guild from 1973–1976. Family and friends will be received May 13, 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m., at Wedekindt Funeral Home, 3290 Delaware Ave., Kenmore, NY 14217. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Andrew’s RC Church, 1525 Sheridan Dr., Kenmore, NY 14217 at 9:30 a.m. on May 14, 2024. Internment at Mount Olivet Cemetery. Janet Marie Lemischak (née Brown) passed away on April 27, 2024, in Buffalo, NY, at the age of 71. Born in Yonkers, NY, on February 24, 1953, Janet was a fireball, passionate and loving, always willing to help anyone in need. Growing up with 7 brothers and sisters, she loved her family immensely. She was a resident of Lake Carmel for 35 years before relocating to Buffalo, NY in 2021. As stubborn as she was caring, Janet was never without an opinion or the determination to share it. She spent over 30 years as a Licensed Practical Nurse, dedicating her life to caring for others. Janet is survived by her beloved husband of 41 years, Joseph W. Lemischak, her children Joseph M. Lemischak (Kristina), Karen Lemischak (Zak Kineke), James Lemischak, and her cherished grandchildren Louise and Odette Kineke, as well as her siblings Marilyn Sullivan-Brown (Charles Brown), Mary Fitzgerald, Francis Brown (Lisa), William Brown, as well her nieces and nephews whom she loved dearly. Janet was predeceased by her brothers Andrew, Edward, and David. The family will be receiving friends and relatives at the Lester H. Wedekindt funeral home in Kenmore, NY on Tuesday, April 30th from 5-8pm with prayers being said at 8pm. Janet will be dearly missed by all who knew her but will be remembered for her dedication to her family and spitfire spirit.
